Oil painter Annieo Klaas approaches her craft like a “window into another world.” Her unexpected compositions feature the beautiful things around her that often go unnoticed, such as the rainbows of color in an oily sewage puddle or the fluffy quilts of mold growing on a cement building underneath a bush. “I am interested in painting things that are real,” she says, “but look like they could be abstract or like they are from another world.” 

Klaas grew up in Dakar, Senegal and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Seattle at Cornish College of the Arts in 2015. Klaas has work in the Fred Hutch Cornish Collection in Seattle, as well as several other personal collections across the United States and in Senegal. She is now based in Mobile, Alabama.
