Maggie Stickney grew up on Long Island and attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design. After receiving a BFA in printmaking she moved to NYC and worked toward a graduate degree in Art Therapy. After moving to Fairhope (her husband's hometown) she rediscovered painting after years of designing and creating custom fabrics for baby-brands while teaching her own young children art. Predominantly Stickney focusses on the natural world; particularly wetlands. "The curves of the earth, and the contrast of the sharp grass lines fascinate me," she says. While often painting the coast, the artist is drawn to the edge of the two worlds--where land and water meet. She also finds herself creating still life paintings of the subtle and simple things surrounding her like house plants. Stickney says that finding beauty in the ordinary has always been her passion.
